Winter storm expected to impact travel in South Central MN

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for much of South Central MN and portions of Southwest MN starting late tonight through Saturday morning. A Blizzard Warning has also been issued for portions of Southwest MN from 10 AM Friday morning to 6 AM on Saturday.

Although snow totals vary depending upon location, the system is expected to bring several inches of snow to the area, along with strong winds, reduced visibility, and dangerously cold temperatures.

  • Motorists should be prepared for difficult driving conditions.
  • Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility impacting your commute.
  • Check road conditions before you travel at 511mn.org. It has snowplow and traffic cameras, road conditions, weather alerts, and more.
  • Make sure your vehicle is weather ready. Have a full tank of gas, keep warm clothes in your car, and carry a winter survival kit.
