SAINT PETER -- The annual Polar Plunge event took place in Saint Peter on Saturday. Hundreds of people showed up at the event. Participating teams and individuals plunged into the icy lake this past weekend as crowds cheered them on at Hallet's Pond near HyVee on Third Street and Old Minnesota Avenue in Saint Peter. Teams took their turns jumping, running, walking and even belly flopping into the cold water.

The polar plunge event in Saint Peter is a local fundraiser organized by the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics of Minnesota. A total of 281 participants plunged in to raise $61,000 of their $70,000 goal this year, according to the polar plunge website.

View all of the photos from the event in next week's edition of the Nicollet County Ledger newspaper.
